Two Months Old

Here we are, two months into Carter's life already.  It has been wonderful and crazy and so fulfilling.  We feel truly blessed.  At two months, Carter is a great baby.  He is a good eater, nursing every 2 to 3 hours, but at night he goes a little longer.  He officially goes to "sleep" between 9:00 and 10:00, and wakes up to eat at about 2:00 and again about 5:00 or 6:00.  The 2:00 feeding is an easy one, usually and he goes right back to sleep.  For the morning feeding Jeff is usually getting up, so Carter and I snuggle in my bed until he demands we do something other than just lay around or until Lily demands (which is what usually happens) we come get her out of bed.

Carter loves to watch everything around him, especially Lily.  She easily makes him smile, but also torments him at times.  Despite her desire/ability to wreak havoc, she has quite a high opinion of Carter and his overall ability level.  Just yesterday, while she and I were "dancing like princesses," I was in charge of making the Cinderella barbie dance, too.  Lily looked over at me and groaned...as if to say, you are doing that all wrong, Mom!  After several very bossy instructions about how to make her dance the right way, which apparently I could not correctly accomplish, she took the doll from me and very matter of factly stated, "fine, Carter do it!" and laid Cinderella next to him in his bouncy chair.  Right Lily, like Carter is going to understand your commands if I can't get it right...

Anyway, Carter's naps are not really on a clock schedule yet, however he usually takes 2 decent ones and a few other cat naps - though sometimes I am not sure how due to the screams that frequent our house.  Carter has taken to a binky much more easily than Lily, and while it is a wonderful soothing devise for him, he doesn't need it very often.  In addition, he loves his swaddle and sleeps much better (and for much longer) when wrapped "like a little burrito."  He loves the bath, especially the warm water, and usually tolerates Lily joining him in the tub pretty well.  The biggest issue this month has been his left ear.  He has had two ear infections, and after a variety of treatments (including 3 oral antibiotics, two injections, ear drops, and the realization that he is allergic to Amoxicilin) we think he is finally healing.  Hopefully, this will be the end of the ear issues.

Overall, Carter is a wonderful, loving baby who can melt anyone's heart with his smile.  Happy two month birthday, Carter!  Enjoy some more "marshmallow chair" pictures.

I have been hesitant to move Lily from her crib, mostly because she likes her crib and is so small she could sleep in it for another four years.  I also didn't want the change to coincide with Carter being born - it would have been too much for Lily.  But really she hasn't moved because I don't want to give up the confinement it provides.  When she is in her crib, I know where she is.  I know she is not climbing her bookshelf or trying on all of her princess dresses or destroying her books or sneaking into her brother's room or who knows what else.  

Apparently, I may need to readjust my thinking.
